I've had good success with trying some blogger recipes this week, which means I'll be adding a few new recipe cards to my recipe box. The first recipe I made was a delicious chocolate pie shared on a food blog that I subscribe to. I have no pictures to show you because I took it to our Easter lunch at my in-laws' on Sunday, and there wasn't a bite left to bring home. I will be making another one of those pies. :)
This evening, I made a soup recipe that my my blogging friend and cook extraordinaire, Kitty, shared on her blog back in 2012. I pinned the recipe then, and I finally got around to trying it out. It's a shame it took me so long, because it was very good and so easy to make.
This was a creamy tomato soup that Kitty and her beloved husband, Rich, ordered at the Tupelo Honey Cafe in Asheville, North Carolina, when they visited here the summer of 2012. Kitty purchased the restaurant's cookbook, and the recipe for the tomato soup was in it. You can read Kitty's post and get the recipe from her Here at Kitty's Kozy Kitchen. Your visit may take a little while because Kitty's blog is full of wonderful recipes. :)
Mr. Forest Manor and I thoroughly enjoyed this soup, and we had plenty for leftovers (always a plus in my book). The soup has a rich, hearty tomato flavor, and the cream makes it just perfect. I think when I serve it again, I'll add a little bit of fresh grated Parmesan and one of those little toasted baguette slices.
With the soup, I served sandwiches made with artisan bread from Harris Teeter, pastrami and Muenster cheese (I always get Boar's Head) with yellow mustard, and grilled on the stove top. I got this idea from my mom; she served these to us for lunch when I was visiting with them a few weeks ago. They turned out just like yours, Mom! ;)
Doesn't the table look really clean, tidy -- and somewhat bare? :) Yep, I think so too. We are not quite this tidy when we have our meals. I mean our food, dishes, utensils, etc., are clean, but I am not a neat cook. I make a mess when fixing the simplest things, so of course, these photos were staged after the meal when everyone's tummies were full.
Thanks for sharing this lovely recipe on your blog, Kitty; I finally tried it and better late than never! :)
And may I just say that after three years, I'm still loving my "new" kitchen. Thank you for your visit, and I look forward to seeing what you've been doing lately. I'm linking this blog post to:
