Steve Grand: Country's New "All-American Boy"

     Does country music finally have its first openly gay male artist? It seems so now that the gorgeous and extremely talented Steve Grand made his brilliant debut on Independence Day (July 4) with a message of being true to himself and a heartbreaking track and music video by the name of "All-American Boy". With his jaw-dropping good looks, chiseled stomach and a voice that will make all guys and girls melt, Grand released his inspirational debut single about a real-life small town crush saying, "Time to be brave. The world does not see change until it sees honesty. I am taking a risk here in many ways, but really there is no choice but to be brave. To not tell this story is to let my soul die."
     The song up for review, the country-inspired ballad "All-American Boy", showcases the artist's impressive and raw vocal talent as he sings about wishing for his small town best friend to look his way even though he has a girlfriend of his own. Everyone, men and women, growing up in the middle of nowhere could relate to the message of the track, the desire to have your closest straight friend be more than just a friend. "Of all the girls and boys to look my way, Ain't no body ever hit me this way, so won't you come back with me, and lay with me a while", the artist sings. While Grand leaves no stone unturned in the personal story, it also sheds light on the soon-to-be-worldwide acceptance between the LGBT and straight communities, which may be the highlight of the accompanying music video.
     "All-American Boy" is an impressive, attention-grabbing single on its own, but Grand's full story is not told until the music video is seen. Opening up at an open fire gathering, Grand catches the eye of his dream guy, hoping he would walk over and hold him instead of his girl. As scenes showing the artist belting out the songs lyrics appear on screen, a road trip with the couple takes place and at one time, Grand's squeeze lays his head on his shoulder. If that was not difficult and confusing enough, once the girlfriend gets upset and leaves the two stranded, viewers are treated to some touching moments between friends and an innocent skinny dip. Here, Grand's perfect abdominal muscles and even nicer bottom get camera time of their own. As the song stops, the artist plants a kiss on his friend and the anticipation and nerves kick in. The friend may not have accepted his offer, but does not handle the incident with hostility, true friends in the making. Excuse me while I go cry now!

 

     Steve Grand is a talented new artist who was brave enough to share his story with the entire country with the release of "All-American Boy". The song showcased a strong, vulnerable vocal delivery, well-written lyrics and a touching music video to go along with it. Grand may have only been on the scene for two days, but my obsession has already kicked into high gear. Hopefully, with the single garnering massive attention already and the video receiving over 200,000 views, a full length album, or at least a few more singles, will be on their way as soon as possible.
