Sia's "Eye of the Needle" - Song Review

You have heard her voice. You have sung along to her songwriting. But are you fully aware of the talent that is Sia Furler?

The singer-songwriter has penned numerous hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Ke$ha, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez, just to name a few, and even scored a Billboard Top 10 hit with David Guetta's "Titanium", but now is finally stepping out as a true artist with her upcoming sixth album.

Preceded by lead single "Chandelier", the new album, 1000 Forms of Fear, saw the release of another featured track, the emotional piano ballad "Eye of the Needle". Sia hits it out of the park once again thanks to the feelings she is able to convey with her vocals, haunting vocals that become the highlight of the new release.

"And I'm left inside in my hole, and your melody is my home, and I won't let the devil in and steal them down, through the eye of the needle," she sings on the soaring yet somber chorus of the new song. It does a great job at building and building with the supported instrumentals until it erupts in all its pop glory. Sia has crafted her own style of pop, a genre that focuses on vocals and songwriting instead of an infectious, radio-ready beat. No one can do what she does.

"Eye of the Needle" is certainly a song anyone could have expected the artist to release, but that does not take away from its true power or its brilliance. Sia sounds to be in a fragile state, however, she eventually perseveres and comes out stronger. The song perfectly nails those emotions.
